Art therapy is a holistic approach addressing psychological, and environmental factors that impact clients lives. Giving them the freedom to express and improve their daily lives though a different medium rather then just straight talk therapy. You do not need to know how to create art, this is only a tool to help express yourself.
Creative Arts Therapists are allied health and mental health professionals who have a masters degree or equivilant to a masters in related mental health professional backgrounds. Art therapists use art, media and the creative process (drawing, writing, sculpting, drama, clay, sand, dance and movement to name a few) to facilitate the exploration of feelings, improve self-awareness and reduce anxiety for clients..
In Australia, New Zealand and Asia, Certified and Registered Creative Art Therapists are registered with ANZACATA as a Professional member holding a Master’s degree in Arts Therapy code 15_610_0128_1_3 and/ or hold a Tier level membership with recognised qualifications equivalent to a Masters. using code 15_056_0128_1_3 for self-managed or plan-managed participants. Completed over 750 hours of supervised clinical placement. Undergo regular supervision, abide by a Code of Ethics and update their practice every year with professional development training..
